My name’s gonna fit!

While I’m sure you’re all still sleeping soundly in your beds, at this exact moment I am beginning a make-or-break test for my teaching career. I don’t anticipate it being too difficult, but I know a few people who have failed it several times.

I’m kind of excited though, because for the first time in my entire life, my name is gonna fit in the scantron boxes on the test form! i’ve waited 29 years for this day.

If anyone wants a sample, sample questions are here. I don’t think they’re all that difficult, but I know there’s a few other types of questions on there, specifically a section on neo-classic literature that i’m really not looking forward to.

Most useless inventions ever.

Todays installment of Most useless inventions ever feature that sleep-depriving, headache inducing car alarm.

Most car alarms seem to be set off by anything from a squirrel to a whisper of a breeze. New York city police have even released statements saying that car alarms are acutally making crime worse. So many Americans are immune to the sound of a car alarm, doing nothing when hearing one, that an impression of not caring about the neighborhood is released, attracting criminals.

Nobody sure cared about the alarm going off in the courtyard parking lot of our building all night long, and for 30 minutes straight beginning around 6:00am.

Really, why do people still have their car alarms activated? They serve no purpose, disable the buggers already!

most deliciousest muffins ever

Chocolate/butterscotch chip muffins

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup light-brown sugar
1/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup butter — melted and cooled
2 eggs - beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 bag chocolate chips
1/2 bag butterscotch chips
1/2 cup walnuts or pecans — chopped (i omit)

Oven at 400

In a large bowl, stir together flour, sugars, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, stir together milk, eggs, butter, and vanilla until blended.
Make a well in center of dry ingredients; add milk mixture and stir just to combine.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Spoon batter into muffin cups; bake 15-20 minutes

cool 5 minutes and remove from tins to finish cooling.

Notes: You can probably half the amount of chips you use. The butterscotch are really oily, so you have to let them cool before removing them from the tins.

And so begins another week.

I went a little cleaning crazy this weekend, and cleaned out the guest room closet, finished the switching of dressers Nick and I underwent (I gave him the bigger dresser so I could have the bigger closet.) Then I moved over the guest room, which is still under the weight of wedding gifts (thanks everyone!) and cleaned out the closet so I could put my new craft supply storage system in there. Now I’m wasted on the couch (energy-wise, I haven’t had anything to drink) and ready for bed.

Does tomorrow really have to be Monday? I hope my legs aren’t as sore tomorrow as my arms were after I worked them.

Friday!

The post title is meant to be exclaimed in the nature of the dog from the beggin strips commercial. Bacon!

What’s everyone up to this weekend? I’m headed up northwest to Fergus to visit the in-laws.

I’ll leave you with this to entertain you for the weekend.

Remember this guy?

mike
There’s a restaurant/bar, you could even call it a “pub” near our place, that we’ve been to a few times. Panino Bros. Working at Panino Bros. is a fun-loving waiter, we’ve had a couple times. His name is Mike! Not the same guy, but he even looks a wee bit like the original. I’ll try to snap a pic next time we’re there. My ninja skills were left at home last time.

JoButt’s coming over!

I need a nap, but I’ll play with Jo instead! Yay! Plus, this way, I might get out of going to the gym.

This one counts?

For the most part, I have absolutely no interest in the MLB all-star game, and the idea that it counts when idiots (read: fans) vote in the starting lineup (kudos to the fans for getting Mauer in over Varitek though).

A couple things I like though:
1. Justin Morneau is currently competing in the homerun derby and has advanced to the final rounds along with Josh Hamilton.
2. I like watching the players hang out on the field, acting like normal guys at a baseball game along with their kids and having fun.
3. Josh Hamilton is kind of hot.

ETA: Justin Morneau wins!!

PS: Xfiles - July 25th, I don’t suppose anyone wants to go with me?
