Most useless inventions ever.
July 25, 2008
Todays installment of Most useless inventions ever feature that sleep-depriving, headache inducing car alarm.
Most car alarms seem to be set off by anything from a squirrel to a whisper of a breeze. New York city police have even released statements saying that car alarms are acutally making crime worse. So many Americans are immune to the sound of a car alarm, doing nothing when hearing one, that an impression of not caring about the neighborhood is released, attracting criminals.
Nobody sure cared about the alarm going off in the courtyard parking lot of our building all night long, and for 30 minutes straight beginning around 6:00am.
Really, why do people still have their car alarms activated? They serve no purpose, disable the buggers already!

At my last place, there was one that would always go off during thunderstorms. It was like clockwork… big clap of thunder, then a car alarm.

Joe and I set off our car alarm by accident once. We were inside of the car, in the back seat, with the doors locked. We didn’t know if you try to open the locked doors from the inside when the car has the alarm engaged (using the remote lock versus the door lock button) that it would set the alarm off.
So much for trying to be discreet, while hanging out in the backseat of the car, on a dark street…

I don’t even lock my car doors around here. I don’t think I’ve heard an alarm around here. Although my neighbors do fire up their loud, loud diesel engine at 6 every morning.
