It’s a girl!

Throwing a wedding shower today for my cousin Becky, who is in general a very sweet girl. Her wedding colors are light pink and light purple, which totally reminds me of Steel Magnolias:
Julia Roberts: the colors are blush and bashful, momma.
Sally Field: They’re pink, and pink.
The biggest challenge with this was making sure it didn’t look like a baby shower. I’ll post pictures later and you all can judge how well we did. I designed the invites, so I cheated a bit on those, using a dark purple base. She cheated on her wedding invites too :)

After the shower it’s the wedding and the BBQ, have a great Saturday!

Everyday other day should be Friday

Friday, Saturday, Friday, Saturday, I could get used to that.

Big plans this weekend anyone? Nick and I are going to a couples shower for some friends who are getting married tonight, tomorrow morning, I’m co-hosting a shower for my cousin, then we’re headed to a wedding, then we’re headed to my aunts house to have a family barbecue, as my cousin’s son, who we rarely get to see (it’s been 4 years, I think?) is in town from Florida. Sunday not much is on the radar, personal training appointment and a 2:00 movie (Mamma Mia) with my mom and Cara.

What are you all up to?

It’s been exactly one year since the 35W bridge came crashing down and Minnesota was all over the national news. At 6:05 a moment of silence will be held following a prayer and memorial service and a 5:30 procession to the stone arch bridge.

Blast off in T-minus 20 days.

Sherry asked in the comments below why I’m leaving my job.

Three years ago, I decided to go to grad school, originally for social work and public policy, but in the middle of the application process, I knew I wanted to go back into teaching, so I switched gears mid-application and got myself accepted into the Master of Arts Instruction program.

On August 25th, I start my student teaching, the last barrier between me and my teaching license.

My last day at my job is August 20th, and I’m working my arse off trying to get through the 300+ cases I have on my caseload.

Husband of the day award

My husband is the bestest. Yesterday I walked away from my desk to ask my boss a question about my leaving and what I should do with a particular case. After a brief stop at Jim’s desk to discuss the latest Doctor Who episode, I got back to my desk where I was greeted by these:
flowers
All day people were walking by my desk asking me what the occasion was, after my standard response of “No reason” they were all shocked, and several of them awarded Nick the unofficial title of “husband of the day”

I’m so lucky.

It’s 9:54am, do you know where your lunch is?

I do, it’s in the fridge, calling to me. I’m super hungry today for some reason and I’m having a hard time not waltzing over to the fridge and popping my lunch in the microwave. I’ll make myself wait until at least 11, but it won’t be easy. The delicious chicken marsala (minus the pesky mushrooms), and garlic mashed potatoes, yum.

I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it.

Doo doo, doo doo doo dooooo

Monday, Monday.

This week is looking pretty uneventful, gym visits, shopping for a bridal shower for an ungrateful, spoiled brat of a cousin on Wednesday but other than that, nothing until Friday. The weekend is another jam-packed one. Exciting stuff.

I wish I had more to day on a Monday, but I don’t. I also don’t hate this Monday like other Mondays for some reason. Huh.

I did accomplish my goal yesterday of not leaving my apartment. It was close there for awhile when Nick wanted me to help him carry stuff inside from Sam’s Club, but I managed to wriggle out of it by doing the dishes.

That is all.

Sunday plans.

So far, so good. My plans for today were, and are, not to leave my house at all. I feel like weekends are completely crammed with activity after activity and this weekend was no exception. Friday night, I bailed on a going-away party for a friend, (sorry Laura!) and Saturday morning I took the test mentioned below. Which was a whole heck of a lot harder than the practice questions, let me tell you, (here’s a paragraph from a book, any book ever written, please who wrote it and what is the title?). So I got up at 6am yesterday, took the test, came home, helped Nick clean the apartment, because friends were coming over last night. We had a blast rocking out playing rock band, finished off a margarita bucket, most of a mojito bucket, several beers, part of another margarita bucket and a boatload of food. Theresa and Zeke stayed the night, and left this morning around 11:00 or so.

So today, my goal is to not leave my apartment, and maybe, just maybe, not even get dressed. (I’ve showered already though, don’t worry, I don’t smell) I had to pass on a barbecue at my friend Heather’s, but it’s so worth it to just bum around for a change. Next weekend is jam packed again with two wedding showers and one wedding. So today, I’ll be here for the majority of time:
couch

(same couch, different apartment)

See you tomorrow.

My name’s gonna fit!

While I’m sure you’re all still sleeping soundly in your beds, at this exact moment I am beginning a make-or-break test for my teaching career. I don’t anticipate it being too difficult, but I know a few people who have failed it several times.

I’m kind of excited though, because for the first time in my entire life, my name is gonna fit in the scantron boxes on the test form! i’ve waited 29 years for this day.

If anyone wants a sample, sample questions are here. I don’t think they’re all that difficult, but I know there’s a few other types of questions on there, specifically a section on neo-classic literature that i’m really not looking forward to.

Most useless inventions ever.

Todays installment of Most useless inventions ever feature that sleep-depriving, headache inducing car alarm.

Most car alarms seem to be set off by anything from a squirrel to a whisper of a breeze. New York city police have even released statements saying that car alarms are acutally making crime worse. So many Americans are immune to the sound of a car alarm, doing nothing when hearing one, that an impression of not caring about the neighborhood is released, attracting criminals.

Nobody sure cared about the alarm going off in the courtyard parking lot of our building all night long, and for 30 minutes straight beginning around 6:00am.

Really, why do people still have their car alarms activated? They serve no purpose, disable the buggers already!
